CDS Hooks Patient View Ballot Reconciliation

  • Isaac - handful of comments about how the current user is represented in the CDS hooks request.  There's an element in context called userid - for example userid: Practitioner/123.  Enables CDS service to construct prefetch queries.  Prefetch queries are probably important for determining the user's role.  Limits ability for a service to construct prefetch FHIR searches.  Relates to _id search parameter.  This problem has been exacerbated with the creation of the PractitionerRole resource.  If it's a clinician, we probably need both the Practitioner and the PractitionerRole resource.  See cdshooks github issue 520.  However, there are production implementations with the current approach.
    • Proposal is to define four prefetch variables that are replaced by information from the user's context in the EHR.  Still backwards compatible.
    • Bryn - how would clients know which ones to provide?  Isaac - how does the CDS service know to specify in its prefetch template userPractionerId versus userPractitionerRoleId?  A CDS service would want to do both.
    • Rob M. - how about an example?  Bryn showed a query that would be wrong if the user were a patient.  In the CDS hooks context, the client is the EHR.
    • Rob M. - doesn't look like that many fields.  Isaac - duplicates what's in userId.
    • There was some discussion about alternative search formats:
    • Isaac - minimum viable solution is to provide the raw Id.
    • Solicit additional implementer feedback.

  • Not discussed on today's call.
