Overview

The HL7 vocabulary artifacts maintained through this UTG process are in the form of extended FHIR CodeSystem, ValueSet, and NamingSystem resources, which are persisted as XML files. As many people are not familiar and comfortable with directly editing these XML file resources, a number of tools that the submitters may find useful have been developed. In this section we will be downloading and installing these UTG tools and verifying that they work. The tools will be configured later during the Create a Proposal and Starting the UTG Editing Tools sections.
Three tools are recommended:

  1. Tool to locally expand ValueSets ("HL7 Vocab" - limited subset of FHIR server capabilities for local use)
  2. Tool to edit the UTG vocabulary resources ("FHIR Toolkit" - UTG Editor)
  3. Tool to conveniently work with GitHub ("SourceTree" - user-interface layer to GitHub repositories)

Download the HL7 Vocabulary Tools

This section covers downloading the UTG tools.

IMPORTANT NOTE before you begin. If using these tools over a VPN, OneDrive, DropBox, or if there are known security tunneling issues with your device, you may have difficulties submitting a proposal. Please contact UTG staff if this is the case.

  1. Navigate to the FHIR Tools Release Page: http://www.healthintersections.com.au/FhirServer/

    1. Download the Mac version of:

      1. FHIR Toolkit

      2. HL7 Vocab

Install the "HL7 Vocab" (the ValueSet expander)

In this section we will be installing the ValueSet expander (HL7 Vocab) and verifying that it works. Note that this borrows from a larger set of FHIR tools, and the install screens refer to it as a terminology server setup. Note that this tool is not a FHIR terminology server, and cannot be stood up as one; it will access the local working copy of changed resources to make it easier for a submitter to view their changes as they develop them. The tool will be configured and utilized later during the Starting the UTG Editing Tools section.

  1. HL7 Vocab will download into your "Downloads" folder with file name "vocabpoc-osx-n.n.n.zip"

In this section we will be installing the UTG Editor (FHIR Toolkit) and verifying that it works. The tools will be configured and utilized later during the Starting the UTG Editing Tools section.

Download External Content

There are several external terminologies that can be downloaded from http://www.healthintersections.com.au/FhirServer/ for use with the UTG Editor.

More information and possibly access to updated terminologies may be made available in the future.
