Why did mCODE STU 1 use MedicationStatement instead of MedicationRequest? What's changed in STU 2?
STU 1 pre-dated some US Core work on representing medication use. For STU 1, MedicationStatements were used to represent any use of medication by patient or in healthcare settings.
Subsequently, US Core decided to use MedicationRequest instead of MedicationStatement to signify a medication has been used by a patient.
In mCODE STU 2, both MedicationAdministration and MedicationRequest are used. This approach achieves a deeper alignment with Treatment-related outcomes.
