BusinessUS Core

Updates: (Brett Marquard)

Publishing has been approved - it is currently sitting with Grahame Grieve.  The FHIR R4 Technical release is being worked on so he will get to US Core when he can.

BusinessNew Tobacco and Smoking Status Data Elements

Anita Walden and her group presented around a set of data elements concerning tobacco and nicotine use:

  • Balloted in September 2019
  • Met with US Realm Task Force
  • Would like to move the data elements into FHIR so that they can be pointed to be ONC as part of the US CDI
  • Developed by clinicians to achieve a better clinical need around the gathering of tobacco and nicotine use
  • Trying to determine how to get them into US core so that they can be used in EHRs and ONC can point to them

Brett Marquard discussed the "Journey to US Core" (Current information about modifying US Core exists at: http://www.hl7.org/fhir/us/core/2019Sep/future-of-us-core.html)

  • the initial step is to create the appropriate FHIR artifacts, eg. profiles, implementation guides, requirements
  • a pilot should be held as an important step to show that the requirements are suitable to be included in US Core

Jean Duteau said that CGP will work on the process after a group has created artifacts and demonstrated that they have been tested and that implementers are willing to incorporate them into their systems.  Exactly how they will be incorporated needs to be determined.  It is possible that US Core could have two sets of profiles: one regulatory with broad adoption and another that is suggestive.  Some form of a US Core Maturity model might be appropriate.

BusinessUS FHIR Base (New Project)

Discuss new project - "US FHIR Base"

Proposal (Brett Marquard):

The group agreed that this would be a suitable new project.  We need to have better understanding of the difference between this and US Core.
