(Official or from HTA)

Clinical Care Classification (CCC) system is a nursing classification designed to document the steps of the nursing process across the care continuum. The CCC system consists of two interrelated taxonomies: the CCC of Nursing Diagnoses and Outcomes, and the CCC of Nursing Interventions and Actions. Both taxonomies are classified by care components, or clusters of elements, that represent behavioral, functional, physiological, or psychological care patterns.

  1. There is an error here.    This was originally registered as hhcc by Suzanne Bakken over 20 years ago, but has been superseded.  The documentation of this change is:

    Home HealthCare Classification System codes.

Note that this code system has been retired, and has been replaced by 2.16.840.1.113883.6.236 CCC.

This change was done (also by Ms. Bakken) on 2011-09-30 14:01:44.0, and the information (matching what is on this page, for the most part) is metadata associated with the OID value 2.16.840.1.113883.6.236 - please update this page accordingly.

  2. Julie James, can we get this topic added to our agenda for next week's meeting on 6/10/2020

    • The correct OID for CCC should be the one in the table - that may have been my mistake but am clarifying with the developers.
    • The administration for CCC has been moved to Hospital Corporations of America under Jane Englebright.
    • I've sent both Virginia and Jane an email to review the above table and update as needed.

Let me know if you have any other questions.  Thanks...Susan

  3. Susan, please go to the HL7 OID registry and put the above OID into the search field on the left and do a Find OID.  Then also search for OID  2.16.840.1.113883.6.236 there.   According to the information published there, on September 30, 2011 Sue Bakken created a new OID superseding 2.16.840.1.113883.6.17, and stated in the Harmonization meetings at that time (I can dig up the minutes if we want to dig that deeply) that old one was being retired and replaced, as the changes between the versions were larger than those accommodated by the versioning policy for HL7 code systems with HL7 maintained identifiers (such as the change from SNOMED RT to SNOMED CT, different code system OIDs; same with ICD9 vs ICD10 vs. ICD11)  The OID 2.16.840.1.113883.6.236 has been published in the HL7 V3 Normative Editions for CCC since that time - every year.     This is the basis for my assertion above that the OID 2.16.840.1.113883.6.17 in the table is incorrect.  The history and full documentation is in both of these entries in the HL7 OID registry.
