Notes"The TNM Staging System was developed and is maintained by the AJCC and the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC). It is the most commonly used staging system by medical professionals around the world. The TNM classification system was developed as a tool for doctors to stage different types of cancer based on certain, standardized criteria.

The TNM Staging System is based on the extent of the tumor (T), the extent of spread to the lymph nodes (N), and the presence of metastasis (M)."

HTA Note: Most content of TNM (V6) is in the SNOMED international release but not content from the most recent (V9).  In Europe many countries use TNM codes, taken from the book and referenced using an OID

  1. i think the uri: https://cancerstaging.org/ shouldn't include the trailing slash. Also this is potentially duplicating: https://confluence.hl7.org/display/TA/TNM

Should the planned canonical uri be used for TNM only? Or also for stage groups? TNM from AJCC an UICC are almost identical, so i'm assuming the canonical version element of this CodeSystem would include smth. like: "8thUICC" or "7thAJCC"?

In general i think 2 CodeSystem(identifiers) would be a good idea: one for TNM, one for stage(groups).

    1. The other HTA page is now retired as it was in the legacy format and should have been removed when this page was created. Noted on the trailing slash, correction has been made. I've added this to the agenda for today's HTA meeting. As written, the URI is only to be used for the AJCC TNM Staging System codesystem. The canonical URI does not include version information (.e.g, 8th UICC, 7th AJCC").  If you have a request to represent an additional code system (UICC?), please enter in an HTA Jira request so we can track the request.
