The Board may, at its discretion, award emeritus status to an HL7 member.  Such a designation is intended to allow the organization to prosper from the advice, wisdom, and experience of the individual so recognized. Typically, the individual would be identified as [leadership designation] Emeritus; e.g., Chair Emeritus or CTO Emeritus.  Such individuals would be encouraged to continue their participation in leadership, albeit as a non-voting member unless specifically designated otherwise, with the proviso that such participation by a non-voting member emeritus shall not count toward quorum.  Internal councils and committees, such as the TSC or International Council, may petition the Board to declare an individual as a member emeritus with a recommendation as to that individual’s voting status. Positions Emeritus shall be held in perpetuity.
