Mission

The ITS Work Group supports the HL7 mission through the development of Implementable Technology Specifications and Messaging Protocol guidelines (e.g. ebXML, Web Services, Messaging encoding specifications) to be used when implementing the HL7 information specifications.

Charter

The work group develops and maintains the normative specifications for Implementable Technology Specifications (e.g. using XML, JSON and other markup languages) and Messaging Protocol guidelines (e.g. ebXML, Web Services, MLLP).  The work group will also produce informative recommendations on application of markup languages across all of HL7's work products, coordinating the representation of documents, messages and other exchangeable payloads such as service exchange structures. The work group will support HL7 through education in the development, evolution, and use of markup language specifications and recommendations. The work group will track the development of markup language-related standards activities and establish liaison with groups whose work is relevant to the HL7 Mission. In addition, the work group will educate the healthcare community in general in the capabilities and utility of markup language standards.
