We also suggest that further alignment and optimization of ELR and eCR data flows are being considered to reduce impact on ELR reporting where data that is not necessary for the the performance of the lab tests needs to be communicated by the ordering provider to the lab solely for inclusion in the ELR transaction to public health. Whenever an eCR reporting capability is available eCR is the appropriate data flow to convey that context information. Recognizing that there are various laboratory results and negative results that would not require an eCR report, wherever alignment is possible to minimize duplicate data flows that need to be reconciled would be beneficial.
