Formulary Open Items  / Discussion

  1.  HOIS - still talking through this one.
  2.  Rx Norm

    - was a required binding and did not allow new Rx Norm codes.  Recommendation is to make it extensible so that that you can use an NDC code at firs and then when a new Rx Norm comes out, you can add that as secondary code. Searchable by either.

Concern about this approach "opening a hole" , i.e. potential for propogation of NDC codes where RXNorm should be.  - Brian B. shares concern per chat.

  • RM: may end up differently.
    • Compounding drugs - but they do have RX Norm codes
    • Could have a max binding to RXNorm, then make sure there are codes in there that support it.
    • For a drug that is on formulary does not have an Rx Norm code

Summary - Saul and Courtney will reach out to find specific examples where there is a drug on a formulary that does not have an RXNorm code yet

Rob would like to better understand this and propose alternative options.  He is willing to bring it back to US Core where needed as well.

Pharmacy did approved, but will hold on applying this change until we land this with the community.

Use cases, may need a better solution.

Provide Guidance on the 2 circumstances of applies to everyone or applies to no one.... Network tag - * or all.  Network is applied but not supplied.

If not supplied (there is no network that applies) or it applies to everyone?, then...

Implementer experiencing a similar issue - Agreed guidance would be helpful here.  thwy were thinking of assigning a name.

4. Discussion:

Create a name for the element on the resource, with an alias for people to find it.

  • Enables us to solve the issue and put as part of a technical correction (not a breaking change)
  • String to URL change as well (as part of next release)

Reviewed FAQ Proposed Responses

Reviewed and Finalized 0009.  Discussion on Proposed Rule (take out "Final" and that the Preamble mentioned no Bulk data but the reg. text had it there 3 times, so TBD and clarification to that discrepancy is needed and hoped for in the final published rule.
