Recap

Encounter Data

  • CMS explained that:
    • Encounter data means the information or data relating to the receipt of any item(s) or service(s) by an enrollee under a contract between a State and a managed care plan.   Encounter data are conceptually equivalent to the paid claims records that state Medicaid agencies create when they pay providers on a FFS basis. So, in this context, encounter data and claims data really are essentially the same kinds of information just different terminology for different programs.

CARIN BB IG Medicaid guidance

  • Reaching out to the State Medicaid vendors to talk about Medicaid specific items that could be developed related to Medicaid and develop some guidance to include in the CARIN BB IG.
