Steve’s career has centered around building and leading non-profit organizations, achieving consensus in complex situations, and driving change through technology on a global scale. He launched the CodeX HL7 FHIR Accelerator in 2019 to drive implementation of a common language for cancer data (mCODE) and other medical specialties like cardiovascular and genomics.
Before joining MITRE, Steve served as CEO of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and Foundation, and as CTO and President of Standards at GS1. Prior to that, he served in technology leadership roles at the Comprehensive Nuclear Test-Ban Treaty Organization and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. He holds a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
