Welcome to the DevDays USA 2020 Virtual Edition Virtual Pub Crawl. While we can't fully duplicate the in-person experience, we can commiserate together and hoist a few glasses to try to forget our social distancing troubles for (at least) one night/afternoon/morning (depending on time zone). We have lined up 5 virtual pubs which you can tour at your leisure. Each will be providing a unique experience, including 1 or more scheduled events in some cases which you may want to join. Just like a real pub crawl, you can order whatever you'd like - but unlike a real pub, there's no extra charge – as long as you provide your own libations! Some pub events may involve a special guided tasting - in these cases, a shopping list is provided if you want to taste-along. Or you can just drink whatever you have on hand that you like - the experience is more about distant socializing, though, of course, it will be enhanced by the proper sort of libation. You're encouraged to tour freely, take in as many of the scheduled special events as you'd like (which will be spread throughout the evening), but try not to stay in too many bars at the same time. Since these virtual bars, like the real physical ones, each have a limited top capacity of 300 each. Bonus points to those of you who come in creative costume!
The Chicago FHIR Blues Bar
From sweet home Chicago comes the Chicago FHIR* Blues Bar where Chicago hipsters gather for blues, booze and chews. Founded in 1989 by such legendary blues singers as Hip-Hop Hammond, Q-Ball Quinn, Kanye Wes and Lightnin’ Chuck, the CFBB has been a Chicago mainstay for over 30 years as a model of urban persistence. It’s had to be, since it has oddly burned down once every 2 years (most recently in Summer 2018) but in each case it has risen back up like a drunken Phoenix, bigger and better than before. Patrons know their liquor here on the South Side of Chicago, and talk about their love for Da Bears, Da Bulls, Da Hawks and Da White Sox (but never those prissy Cubs), and the frequent fist fights generally end up in a sweaty, bloody hug. So come and get it while we’re still here for the best in blues, booze, chews and assorted bad behavior that toddling Chi-town has to offer.
Location: Chicago, IL
Theme: Blues, booze, chews. Host Bartender: Wayne Kubick
Alternate Bartender: TBD

Taste-along shopping list:
1) Fresh Goat Cheese - Widely available and best when purchased from a local creamery. Recommended national brands include Vermont Creamery and Cypress Grove. Pair with: honey and wheat beer or a crisp white wine like Sauvignon Blanc, Gruner Veltliner or Albarino.
Aged Gouda - Look for a wedge with visible crunchy bits, proof of a well-aged hunk. Recommended brands include Ewephoria, Beemster, and Trader Joe’s 1,000 Day Gouda. Pair with: toasted pecans and malty amber ales or the white you served with the Goat cheese or bubbles.
Roquefort - A classic French sheep’s milk cheese with piquant kick. If you can’t find it, look for Blue d’Auvergne, any blue from the American producer Rogue Creamery, or Trader Joe’s cave-aged blue. Pair with: dried figs and stout. For wine a Sauterne is traditional, but also any full-bodied or fortified red.
But if all you got is cheese whiz and beer, come as you are.
