Use Case Description:

Note: This use case is from the American Clinical Laboratory Association (ACLA) to cover the increasing volume in at home specimen collection partially due to EAU approved test that do not require a prescription.

Patient contacts doctor, concerning symptoms of COVID-19, who orders a test and a test kit is sent by mail to the patient.  Alternately a patient may acquire a test kit on their own (order online or purchase at retail store).

Patient following the included directions collects specimen and sends to the Laboratory.

Laboratory personnel perform the test and submit results to the patient, public health if reportable, and to the ordering provider if applicable.

Actors:

Scope Statement:

If ordered by the provider, the EHR would present AOE questions and send with the order to the Laboratory but if the patient acquires the test without a provider, then the directions would need to be updated to include AOE questions.
