HL7 products change over time, and consumers must be able to distinguish between versions.
All HL7 versioning strategies must be able to support the business needs of a variety of communities/constituencies so that the impact of a new version is clearly apparent.
The GOM-defined release identification scheme applies to a published product, not to the artifacts that constitute that product. Versioning is intended to be applied to the constituent artifacts or collection of artifacts.
Each product family or standalone product must have a versioning scheme for their artifacts.
