View the recording online.  Highlights:

  • Pt Contributed Data discussion starts around 4:40.
    • Important distinctions in minutes below, particularly a Zulip thread about "patient writeback" to EHRs, and that the scope of our work (like all of FHIR) is far broader than just EHRs
  • Dave Hill's rich, broad PACIO presentation starts at 21:52. (If a virtual meeting could have a standing O, this would have gotten one)

_________________________

Jan: is there anything in ONC regs or USCDI related to patient contributions being WRITTEN to the record?

John Moehrke: not that I know of. OTOH, Care Plan certainly involves patient wishes, so it may be a good place to start.

Debi: Virginia reported some meeting where people were saying they assumed some sort of patient input TO the record.

Nancy & John exchange: There are places in the world where patients do send info into the organization. But we need to be careful about wording - the EHR is not the only place where patient information exists.

John: The VA's My Health eVet has a procedure to bundle up patient info and submit it.

NOTE THAT HL7 and FHIR ARE IN NO WAY LIMITED TO EHRs. Apps, payers, etc etc.

Maria notes that EMR/EHR vendors aren't likely to adopt something without a business case.  We should create a standard that's worth adopting, but we shouldn't be confined to whether EMRs will do it.

Also, John notes: "EHR" is not synonymous with "provider organization," not to mention the world of apps. The larger care org includes radiology, pathology, and other things.

Action item: Jan will populate the Patient Contributed Data Project folder with minutes and google doc.

Continued to review the Google Doc where the project's thoughts are being collected.

A key purpose of whitepaper is to help us define further projects/priorities.  Also to inform on patient's perspective.  Nancy recommended to look at Kantara - Eve Mailer's piece.

ACTION: Review this document and comment by next meeting.

Update on Project Logistics/HL7 process

OUR ACTION:  We need to review the old / deprecated "Documents" folder on our project's home page, so that we can move things to the new "S3 File Connector" instead.
