ANSI Anti-Trust Policy:  Professional Associations, such as HL7, which bring together competing entities are subject to strict scrutiny under applicable antitrust laws. HL7 recognizes that the antitrust laws were enacted to promote fairness in competition and, as such, supports laws against monopoly and restraints of trade and their enforcement. Each individual participating in HL7 meetings and conferences, regardless of venue, is responsible for knowing the contents of and adhering to the HL7 Antitrust Policy as stated in §05.01 of the Governance and Operations Manual (GOM).

Meeting Notes

  • 8/18 - ObservationDefinition.qualifiedInterval.condition
    • Zulip chat: https://chat.fhir.org/#narrow/stream/179256-Orders-and-Observation-WG/topic/ObservationDefinition.2EqualifiedInterval.2Econdition
    • Rahul Agarwal will attend to discuss.
    • Two issues:
      • ?? (missed that)
      • Observation.interpretation value set not able to align with ObservationDefinition.qualifiedInterval to indicate for the observation definition which values in observation interpretation code system
        • We need to enhance the qualifiedInterval backbone to address both valid reference ranges (numeric and qualitative) and associated interpretations from the larger observation interpretation code code system.
        • Rahul will provide a JIRA with a suggestion on how to enhance ObservationDefinition.qualifiedValue to reflect both needs more complete and more clear.

you may want to compare observation.deifinition vs observation in FHIR side by side as they do differ.
definition is for any patient getting a test done.  whereas observation is for the specific pt instance.
(which I think folks recognize already)
Interested in Kathy's response too

Andrea Pitkus, PhD, MLS(ASCP)CE, FAMIA. UW-Madison to Everyone (Aug 18, 2023, 1:49 PM)
The value set with pre-follicular, et al may apply for the FSH results but not others:  https://www.mayocliniclabs.com/test-catalog/overview/602753#Clinical-and-Interpretive
Reference range is usually set up in tables in LIS associated with each result
so when a value comes across from instrument, then the applicable range is applied.  Interpretation for critical values or h ol can be applied
or low
The LIS set up has been historically separate from HL7 messaging.  However with your situation you are fulfilling both functions
