The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services is proud to again be bringing stakeholders together in an HL7 FHIR Connectathon July 19 – 21, 2022. This Connectathon will provide future focused policy updates on July 19th. On July 20 and 21 the industry will participate in testing opportunities for FHIR server and application developers who are working to support better patient access, health equity, and data access for the healthcare industry.

Healthcare stakeholders will come together in a unique round table environment to advance industry adoption by committing to real world testing initiatives.

There are three ways to participate:

  1. Lead a Track: If you are an experienced HL7 FHIR Track Lead who is ready to convene industry stakeholders who have implemented or are trying to implement FHIR IGs in support of CMS Interoperability Rules, please complete a Track Proposal no later than April 30th. Tracks limited to education or pre-testing specification development are more suited for participation in HL7 Connectathons in May or September.

2. Technology Implementers: If you have leveraged HL7 FHIR to build a server or application we want you to bring your implementation to the event, register your endpoints in the Connectathon Manager Application, and test Track Scenarios on a live zoom to share your learnings with other Connectathon participants. We will convene track participants in the weeks leading up to Connectathon in order to connect you to other testers.

3. Healthcare Payers and Providers using third party software: We will be hosting Implementer Round Table sessions leading up to and during the event. In these round tables we will encourage dialogue about how your implementations are going with the goals of connecting you to other organizations who are trying to solve the same challenges and collecting real world feedback on FHIR Implementation.

Please note: The purpose of a Connectathon event is to engage in testing of the FHIR specification and implementations. While the FHIR Community thrives on perpetual learning, this environment demands preparation to participate in technical discussions, code review, and testing of a reference implementation or your own FHIR-based system. It is expected that by registering for this event you have adequately prepared by reviewing the FHIR specification and any artifacts specified on the track page, attended all participant information sessions, and established a connection with your track through the Track Kick Off or other work sessions.
